Religion is but a state of mind.

A very interesting book and definitely recommended a read. I went in search of this book becoz Juju claims its better then Davinci Code. I had read Davinci Code and loved it.

Both books are great.

For one, it gives you a clip-note version tour of the some of Europe’s most treasured and intriguing art. Europe has just been nominated onto my “places-to-visit-before-I-die-or-before-the-world-gets-destroyed-by-terrorists” list.

These books have been stirring quite a controversy especially by being a thorn in the Vatican’s side. I’m not going to take sides in this never-ending debate on whether there is a God or not. However, I do feel that Christianity has been very much over-rated. (this comes from remembering how this girl told me when I’m fifteen that everyone will go to HELL if they are not baptized and convert to Christianity.) Maybe that’s why it feels great to have someone speak (or write) to refute the hocus pocus things the church says.

Over the centuries, with sciences being very much undiscovered and unexplored, people are very superstitious and thus, turns to religion. Religion is very much a state of mind. A mental and emotional faith that gives one a sense of balance to go on. It has been used to describe many unexplained phenomenon. Basically, whatever can’t be explained, they say God or the Devil did it. People fear the unknown, and whoever can instill hope and trust from the people gets the most followers and thus ‘win’ the game. If you think microscopically, gangs operate in the same way.

Religion has also been used in the past as a tool to teach behavior and control society. It is by far the most efficient medium of communication whereby cultures and values are passed down. Thus its value.

Once, as a naïve girl who was supposed to be a new Christian, I asked my shepherd. “I think, God tries to reach out to every single one of us by appearing to us in the form best acceptable by us. That’s why the Hindus have their own gods, Buddists, Muslims etc. All of them teach similar values and teach us to be good.” Hereupon I got the GREATEST shock of my life when she replied with a booming ,”NO~” She says, “ There is only one God, the rest are only images of Satan there to lure people away from heaven.” Shocked… I was rendered speechless. If this is so, can someone tell me, why did our benevolent God only choose to appear in Jerusalem, only choose the Westerners to save, and leave China, India and the whole of southeast asia to Satan? He didn’t even give them a chance to hear his word (before they supposedly went to hell. And no, I found out from her that they aren’t given the chance to be reincarnated so that they can listen to his word and make their choice). A waste of a lot of souls this seems.

Religion is but a power struggle, olden day politics.

Despite my views and thoughts, when I do pray, I usually start with “Dear God,” and not “Guan yin pus ha” lol. I guess it does everyone good to have some faith. To me, the greatest is Gaea. The world is created by a higher power God but I don’t think the Christians are correct to say its their god. Why, she’s everyone’s God too.
