The Idiosyncracies of the Workplace
I figured that the reason behind incessant squabbles and political manipulating in my particular unit is that we do not have defined jobscopes.
In the marketing department, my jobscope is not focused around marketing related jobs. Its mostly logistics, answering customer service complaints, doing loanshark work like chasing for unpaid subscription fees etc.
Like just this morning, my boss called me on an issue on fri.
Last friday, after much discussion with my supervisor, I sent an email to the manager who heads customer services, asking if i can transfer back to them, a customer complaint. It is by no fault that I emailed him at 7+pm. (I am still at work answering to such customer complaints when his customer service team happily went home much earlier).
What surprises me is that a simple light-hearted ask for help on this issue could be twisted and mis-construed to such an extent that he raved at my manager. (thus, causing my manager to call me so early on a Sunday morning and give me a dressing down)
I'm feeling rather mixed between sheer amusement, anger (at the other manager) and apologetic to my boss for getting the flak. But really, if more than half the time, I'm doing work for people in the other departments, then why can't they do my job for me?
Idiots...
