Breaking the Rules

Several memorable moments from my first concert, David Tao’s “Love Can World Tour 2005” are still firmly etched in me even 3 days after the concert ended. Thanks Charline, for getting such great seats. ^-^

I like David Tao. He comes across to me as someone who is very passionate to music, generous and sincere to everyone. The ‘God-father of R&B’ lives up to his name by belting out more then 20 songs in top form while having scarcely any breaks in between.

Most memorable are his renditions of (bare with me as technical errors does not allow me to type Chinese) ‘Yue Liang Dai Biao Shui De Xin’, ‘Pu Tong Peng You (unplugged)’, Mr Anata etc etc. Actually, I can’t remember all the songs he sang. Reason being I’ve never had the habit of remembering song titles and so I can’t identify the songs. But trust me, all the songs are absolutely wonderful.

David decided to sing ‘Melody’, a rarely performed number, as he says he wants to reward the crowd for being so enthusiastic. The song plunged the whole stadium to a kind of wistful-sorrow which made me feel a little sympathetic for him. I suppose it’s not easy to bare your feelings to everyone.

I especially loved the unplugged segment and his rendition of English oldies.

Over the course of the 3 hour concert, he had 4 costume changes (white suit, red suit, gangster suit lol and grungy casual outfit) and had 4 (or more) change of guitars.

He broke the rules by coming down the stage two times to mingle with the audience. I’m really impressed. His concert lacked gimmicks but he made it up with quality and sincerity. I was also impressed by the way he shared the stage with the band and back-up singers and the rapport he had with them.
