Its SHIOK to Give! - The LP60 Legacy

As leading LP, we’ve raised the bar again.
Our Wow day was nothing but spectacular.
$24 k has been raised for the event.
$19 k and more went directly to the beneficiaries in the form of donations, ang baos, presents.

We, LP60, raised the bar again.
A legacy has been created.

Eyes were lit up and smiles showed on the faces of our beneficiaries – 40 senior citizens and 60 kids.

They were gathered early in the morning at their respective homes and ferried to Pasir Ris Elias Community Centre. Alighting from the buses, there were greeted with Stilt Walkers, Balloon Twister, Uni-cyclist and Clown. They collected their namecards, had some breakfast snacks and were entertained till its time for them to enter the hall.

The previous day, I had joined my LP60 mates to decorate the hall. We blew up 100 balloons, put up streamers etc. Kitson got this crew to set up the stage, the backdrop and the sound system. We moved the goodie bags we’ve packed to the backstage. With teamwork, we got the hall done up faster then we thought possible.

The event started off with an ice-breaker. Everyone in their group got to know one another and bonded. It was followed by a sing-a-long session. All the kids went onstage and formed an impromptu choir while the senior citizens joined in with percussion instruments off-stage.

After that the kids got to write Christmas wishes and hang it on a tree, decorate their own tree followed by a Tree lighting ceremony. They also got to twist balloons for others as gifts. Along with this, there was a cake decorating competition, Magic Show by JC Sum, Christmas Carolling.

I was touched by my kid’s gesture of love for me. Someone whom he has only met for a few hours. Someone he let enter his life for the few hours. He showed his appreciation to me with hugs and kisses. I was helping him twist a balloon, he came over and said “you make nice nice dog for me! Thank you! I love you!” and with that he gave me a hug and a kiss. Its so sudden, I was left stunned for a moment.

Its an amazing feeling, watching Grandpa Lin’s face light up with a smile when he sees the kids dancing and prancing around on stage, when Chang Xin gave him a hug and wrote down his Christmas Wish. Its just marvellous when I see him smile while helping to decorate the cake with the kids.

It’s touching, when Ram just came over and stood by my side, arms on my shoulder as we watched JC Sum perform, as we leaned on each other. I was touched when he gave me his badge with a simple, “this is for you, so you can remember me.” After I saw him onto the bus home, he ran down to give me another hug and a kiss on the cheek. “Thank you! Merry Christmas!” he said.

I asked this girl, Ton Zi “Why do you tickle me? Cannot bully me!” She whispered in my ear, “I bully you cause I like you.” And she gave me a grin.

I was amused by Chang Xin when he squirmed when I pretended to kiss him. And how he smiled when I actually did.

It actually felt good bringing food for the senior citizens and making sure they had enough to eat and drink.

All good things come to an end. We didn’t really want our WOW day to end. But it did.. well.. technically. Coz we know, that we’ve learnt to be givers and yes…

Its SHIOK to Give!
